Local, fresh & Flourishing
Alex Lank is a Canadian drummer and recent graduate of the St. Francis Xavier University music program. Raised in Nova Scotia, Alex started music early on when he was convinced by his mother to start taking piano lessons at the age of 7. As he continued his classical piano studies, Alex took up the drums at the age of 14 and immediately began playing with as many people as he could, in genres ranging from jazz to punk to heavy metal and more.
While still in high school, Alex participated in programs such as Nova Scotia Honour Jazz and began studying with St. FX drum set professor Terry O’Mahoney. During his time at St.FX, Alex played in many St. FX groups, including the Guitar Ensemble, Latin Band, Percussion Ensemble, as well as leading and co-leading many student led combos and ensembles. He has also had the chance to perform with many of the professors at the university including Paul Tynan (at an ECMA showcase), Jake Hanlon, and Kevin Brunkhorst, as well as playing in clinics with jazz greats such as Mike Stern, Lorne Lofsky, Randy Brecker, Adam Rogers, Neil Swainson, and more. Alex is currently preparing for a move to Toronto in the fall where he will be working towards a Masters degree at the University of Toronto.
Catch him at the market this Saturday!
