Fibre artist Ruth Mackay gathers snippets from Cobweb Woollies, Lismore Sheep Farm , Briggs & Little, and local thrift stores to pursue her art on the sixth generation Mackay family homestead in Lyon’s Brook, Pictou County.
Snippets are textile whimsies created from local and upcycled natural fibres, following artistic tradition, and beautifying life. Inspired by Beatrix Potter’s The Tailor of Gloucester wherein the tailor muses, “there is no more left over in snippets than will serve to make tippets for mice”, even the tiniest snippets of yarn, fleece, and fabric find their place in playthings, giftware, décor accents, and wardrobe accessories.
