“Twas Weeks Before Christmas” -A Farmer’s Market Poem

‘Twas Weeks Before Christmas”
-A Farmer’s Market Poem, by Kristi

‘Twas weeks before Christmas, when all through the town,
Citizens were asking, where are the best gifts around?;
The New Glasgow Farmers Market has gifts made with care,
Items are one of kind, so unique and rare;

The vendors were nestled all snug by their tables,
From jellies to jewelry to authors selling fables;
Woolen slippers from Lismore and MeMaws selling caps,
One of a kind gifts, that would not overlap.

When out of the door there arose such a tune,
With melodies so catchy you couldn’t help croon .
Away to the kitchen, the people ran to eat,
Outside they waited for the friends they would meet.

Pat’s cookies and coffee to take on the go,
“Hey, don’t forget my beer from Uncle Leo’s!”,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A nice bottle of wine from Petite Riviere!

Lakenman’s Farm, service so friendly and quick,
You just can’t resist eating all their fresh picks.
More rapid than eagles, seasons went and they came,
So happy to see patrons, they were called by their name;

“Now, SHEILA! now, BRENDA! now, AMANDA and SHARON!
On, PAT! on PAUL! on, JOHN and KAREN!
To the back of the dome! to the front of the wall!
Now shop away! shop away! shop away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they met with an obstacle, moved around to the side,
So around the market with precise skills they flew,
Filling reusable bags with local gifts and great food.

At MacD’s Bees they found lots of honey so sweet,
Then they got free range beef at BLM Meats.
Mister Products had sauces and condiments galore,
To go with Little Dorset’s farm fresh turkey and more.

Fresh breads and pies baked by Will and Rilda,
And a scarf for mom that was Handcrafted by Melissa.
Eat Chapel Cove Chocolate and you’ll never look back
You’ll hide it and hoard it right in your pack!

The customer’s eyes — how they twinkled! They looked so merry!
That would be Steinhart’s liquor made from fresh berries!
Under the weather or not feeling like you?
Be sure to ask Conny, she’ll know just what to do.

So many talented artists the market does boast,
It’ll definitely be hard to tell which you like most;
Photography by Heather or Art By Dionne,
Maybe a print from Lyn-Sue, I could go on and on!.

Big Cove Foods, they have your spice,
No matter which you choose, it’s sure to taste nice!
Too many vendors to mention, there’s not enough space,
So be sure to come meet them and talk face to face.

If you’re at a loss and you can’t give more ties,
Get a Farmers Market Gift certificate, it’s just the right size!
There’s one important thing about which we are vocal,
No matter what you do, strive to always buy local!

Our volunteers they will greet you and continue to work,
You’ll always get a real smile and never a smirk!
We appreciate our shoppers, they’re such a great sight,

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!

NGFM Gift Guide Part 3- For Her

Another in our series of posts that is aimed at guiding you to find just the right gift for everyone on your list.  We have something for everyone and in every budget!

Remember, all items at the Market are hand made, baked or grown locally, they are not imported.

The beauty of it is that you are giving a very special gift that was handcrafted with love, thought and care to give to someone special and the people on your list deserve nothing less.

A reminder that we do have new vendors that come time to time or are new and may not be showcased here and there’s many more items than we have space to show, so that’s why it is important to come to the Market every week, you never know what hidden gem you’ll find!

NGFM Gift Guide Part 2- For Kids

We have lots of great gift suggestions for kids, babies and teens at the Market! And of course the ideas don’t end at what’s pictured here. There are lots of great gifts, so be sure to check out all parts of our upcoming guides for just the perfect gift that’s right for the special people on your list!

NGFM 2016 Gift Guide- Part 1 For Him

Here we are…a little later than hoped. We had wanted to get this out a little sooner but Mother Nature had other plans and Winter came roaring in like a lion bringing snow, wind and power outages to our area. And it’s not really even winter yet!

Weather or not, the 2016 Christmas and Holiday season approaches and once again you are looking for just the right gift for the people on your list. Whether you’re buying for a teacher, a boss, a close friend, acquaintance, family member or secret Santa, the Market has just the right thing…and for every budget. Something unique and personal made with quality and love that represents the person you are gifting to.

Don’t forget that shopping local is so very important. You are directly helping a small business person and their family this season. Shopping local provides a ripple effect in our community. For when you purchase from one of our vendors, they have to make more product. They must then replenish their materials by purchasing supplies and they can also then spend the money they make at other local businesses and organizations in our community. We are happy to provide a space for more than 50 local farmers,  food producers, crafters and artisans from our community every week.

Looking for suggestions? This gift guide is a multi-part series that will help you find just the right thing. If you are looking for additional help, please ask at the welcome table located by the ATM or find the market Manager, Kristi (that’s me) and I will be happy to show you some suggestions while you’re at the Market. If you still aren’t sure what to get, we have Market gift certificates. They come in increments of $10 and can be spent with any vendor at the Market. The proceeds of your gift go straight to vendor as this is a service the Market provides for customers and vendors alike.

Now let’s get on with some gift suggestions for him. Click on the image for a description. And don’t forget to check out the other parts of the series when they are released, because there are many gifts that fit in multiple categories like chocolate, cheese and more.

We are open every Saturday through December 17th from 9am until 1pm and don’t forget our special weeknight Market on Wednesday, December 7th from 4pm until 8pm! We are located at 261 Glasgow St in New Glasgow, NS.
